We read a story called Actual Size by Steve Jenkins. This book was all about the sizes of different animals. We got to see the actual size of a Great White Sharks teeth and the length of an ant eaters tongue.
We found out that Amelia's hand is the same size as the teeth of a Great White Shark.
The next day we put out a provocation. We placed two pictures from this book on a table and asked the students what they could do with these pictures.
We had some friends tracing the gorilla's hand. Then they would trace their own hand inside the palm of the gorilla.
Some friends decided to measure themselves using the gorilla hands.
We took another look at the ant eater picture and asked the students what we should do. They came up with measuring to see who has the longest tongue in our class.
We had all of our friends stick out their tongues. We thought that Guiliana had the longest tongue. After measuring we found out that our prediction was correct! Giuliana's tongue is 6 centimetres long.
