The first day we introduced coins with the red group we gave them sorting trays. Most of our friends sorted by coins and a few friends sorted by colour.
When we introduced the coins to the green class we decided to only put out coins and see what the students would come up with.
Rehema: "I'm sorting them. I put the same coins on the same ones"
Alicia "I'm going to shake them and then see how many are heads up"
Cole and Alicia decided to play a guessing game with the coins. One friend gave clues while the other friend had to guess the name of the coin.
Allen made a square using different coins and Rhaven made a tower.
Some of our friends were printing the names and values of the coins at the writing centre. Silena made a pattern with the names of two coins (penny, nickel, penny, nickel).
Matteo used our classroom coin pictures to test our friends. He gave different clues about each coin and chose friends to guess the coins.
In class we have been watching a video on Canadian coins by Michael Mitchell. If you are interested look up the video at home and have your child tell you the names of each coin.
