Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

We had such a great time at Miller's Farm! We went on a wagon ride that brought us straight to the pumpkin patch. Each child was allowed to chose one pumpkin and one gourd. Afterwards we went for story time. One of the Farmers was kind enough to give us apples to snack on while we listened to many Halloween/Pumpkin stories.

We have also been having tons of fun in the classroom! Take a look at what we've been up to.

Halloween Patterning

Making Jack-o-Lanterns out of play dough

We've learned about Halloween words in French. We even decided to make a Halloween class book.

The students helped create spider webs. Each web had a number and the students had to dig through the webs and pull out that many spiders, bats or skeletons.

Fall

These last few weeks at school have been very exciting! We've learned about a new season, the leaves changing colour and we've even done some apple tasting. Take a look at what we've been up to in our classroom.

We went on a leaf hunt and then read the story Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.

We created some leaf art!

Many students came to school telling us that they had gone apple picking. We began talking about the different types of apples, the different colours of apples and which were their favourite. From this information we charted what the students know about apples and what they wonder about apples.

Red Class

Green Class

We decided to bring in three different types of apples: Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Granny Smith. The students were given the opportunity to taste each type.

Take a look at our graph entitled "Which graph do you like best?"

Once the students decided which apple was their favourite we began creating apple prints.

When we were "wondering" about apples one of our students asked "How do you make applesauce?" We decided to make applesauce using a crock pot and only two ingredients: apples and water.

While Mrs. Porcari was cutting the apples many students were interested in counting the seeds that were inside the core.

The students really enjoyed our applesauce!

Shared Reading

Today your child's Shared Reading Book will be going home. Please review the songs, poems and prayers with your child and remember to return the book to school every Monday. We will try to include a "fotobabble" which will allow you to hear the children singing the songs. We hope you enjoy this reading experience with your child!
