Junkyard Symphony
Earlier this week we enjoyed a fantastic performance from Junkyard Symphony. There were three entertainers who used household junk and turned them into instruments. Their motto is REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. They believe that all you need to make an instrument is a great IMAGINATION.

Easter fun!
Our friends came back very excited this week with many stories about their Easter weekend. This lead to a fun writing activity. We asked all of our friends what they would do if they were the Easter Bunny. Follow the link below to listen to some of their responses.

Baking Banana Muffins
UOver the past two weeks both classes enjoyed baking banana muffins as a group. Here is the recipe if you would like to bake the same muffins at home.
Banana Muffins
1/2 cup canola oil
1 cup white sugar ( we used half a cup)
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 very ripe mashed bananas
1-2 teaspoons of pure vanilla
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Mash the bananas
3. In a large bowl add the oil, sugar and vanilla. Mix together.
4. Then add in the flour, baking soda and salt.
5. Blend in the mashed bananas.
6. Pour batter into muffin tins.
7. Place muffins in oven for 20 minutes. These muffins cook fast so check them around 17 minutes.

Creating Number Sentences
We have been working on addition in our classroom. When creating their number sentence the students can chose any two numbers to add together. We gave the students stickers to use as a manipulative to help when adding both numbers together.

Block Centre
Our block centre has quickly become a classroom favourite. The students love to build and make new creations everyday. When the students are building they are learning to explore and experiment with different materials, they are learning to be creative, to work on sharing and they are even learning about different math concepts.
The block centre is a great place for students to refine their language skills. They begin to talk through what they are doing either to themselves or to their partner. They communicate with each other when they are using their imagination to create stories to go along with their creations. A goal of ours is to have the students step back from their creations and to try explaining what they have created using their own vocabulary. Follows the links below to listen to some of our students explaining their own creations.
