Two weeks ago we brought a caterpillar into our classroom to watch him change into a butterfly or moth. Many students made surveys asking each other whether they thought our caterpillar would turn into a moth or butterfly. We learned that if the caterpillar turns into a moth then it makes a cocoon. If the caterpillar turns into a butterfly then it makes a chrysalis.
On Monday, while looking to see if there were any changes, we discovered that our caterpillar had turned into a moth!
The picture below shows the moth and the cocoon it came out of.
We decided that we needed to let the moth go.
