Earth Hour

Tomorrow, March 28th is Earth Hour at 8:30pm. Check out earthhour.org for the countdown. Today at SMY we are showing our support by turning off all the lights and technology from 1:30 to 2:30.

We had fun making the Earth using coffee filters, markers and water!

During our SMY Earth Hour we combined the red and green class to share an environmental story with them.

Why is water clear?

We wanted our students to imagine our water if it wasn't clean. What would happen if we didn't take care of our water?

Would you want to brush your teeth with this water?

Healthy Eating

Mrs. Nesrallah, our health teacher has been talking to the red class about eating healthy foods. She's been asking them if they've been eating the "rainbow". Colourful fruits and vegetables are healthy foods to eat.

She then asked the students if they were to eat colourful foods such as skittles and smarties, would they be considered healthy? Almost all of the red class agreed that they are unhealthy.

We learned a new song today.

Follow the link below to watch the video of our new song.

Lenten Project

Today was the first day for our Lenten Project. Many kindergarten friends brought in money for the photobooth and the hockey game. This is fantastic! The kindergarten team is asking that you write in your child's agenda which event your money is going towards (photobooth OR hockey game). Your child is allowed to participate in more than one event on the same day. You just need to indicate how much money is going towards each event.

March 3rd and 5th - Photobooth Day
March 3rd, 10th, 24th, 31st - Buy tickets for hockey game
April 7th, 9th - 2nd Photobooth Day
April 10th - Jersey Day and Hockey Game Day
April 17th - Bubble Gum Day

On another note:

Our Kleenex and Purrell supply is nearly all gone. We would really appreciate if you are able to donate one of the two items to our classroom as we still have four months left of school. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Fingerprint Detectives

On Friday, Charlotte was looking through a science book and became interested about a certain page. This page gave us some information about fingerprints.

We learned that no two fingerprints are alike. We also learned that there are three types of fingerprints; arch, whorl and loop.

Miss B and Charlotte decided to take a closer look at their fingerprints using ink. The rest of the class decided that they wanted to join in.

The students took turns looking at their fingerprints to see which type they have. Once they knew they then filled out our fingerprint chart.

Ask your child about which type of fingerprint they have. For fun, see if everyone in your family has the same type.
