Butterflies

We are very lucky to have such nice neighbours! The 4/5/6 class were kind enough to share 4 of their caterpillars with us so that we could learn about the life cycle of the Butterfly. We learned all about the four stages: 

1. Egg

2. Caterpillar

3. Chrysalis

4. Butterfly

We read the book The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle in both English and French. In the story, Eric Carle uses the word "cocoon". We learned that the correct word for the third stage in the life cycle is chrysalis or pupa. 

Emma decided to look through the story during centre time.

The students were asked to use stamps to show the correct order of the life cycle. The fourth stamp below shows the butterfly trying to come out of the chrysalis. 

Adam and Carter decided to make a play dough caterpillar.

Our caterpillars have grown a lot over this week. We keep checking to see if any of them will make their way to the top of the container and form a "J" like statue. This tells us that they are ready to start forming their chrysalis.
